How does an online session help?
Online therapy or tele-psychotherapy provides psychotherapeutic services via video, audio, text, chat, or email, which can be accessed from anywhere. It is a good option for people who have difficulty accessing such services due to health issues, schedule, location, and even for those who are not comfortable with face-to-face/in-person therapy or are new to therapy.
Are online sessions effective?
Among the many benefits of online therapy, one can find this method beneficial especially during a pandemic such as the Covid-19. As technology has evolved and most services are available online, online sessions help to connect with a therapist at one’s own convenience. This can be availed as standalone treatment or alongside traditional sessions. Many popular therapeutic approaches are designed in such a manner that they remain effective even when offered as online therapy sessions. Studies indicate that in many situations online therapy is as effective and successful as the traditional method.
However, this is not recommended in certain situations. For instance, people with severe emotional, psychotic or psychological issues such as, schizophrenia or those with suicidal tendencies. They require intensive care. It is also not recommended for people who cannot regularly attend their sessions due to poor connectivity and/or knowledge.
When do you need help?
Psychological help provides support to those undergoing challenging situations in life and to those who have emotional difficulties, including trauma caused by past experiences. One may also need help when subjected to emotional abuse, or when one is experiencing stress or others kind of difficulties. Although some people seek professional help immediately, many others do not. However, most people benefit from therapeutic interventions.
