Bangalore Lacanian Cartel

The Bangalore Lacanian Cartel is one of the first dedicated Lacanian cartels in India, outside the traditions of Calcutta. It is a closed working group in the Lacanian orientation, and is to be declared towards the New Lacanian School. 

 

Theme: Jouissance and Containment

 

The cartel examines the clinical tension between the disruptive jouissance in its real dimension, linked to the drive and the objet petit a, and the mechanisms of containment at work in post-Freudian theory and clinical (clinical psychological and psychiatric) practice. Particular attention is paid to the persistence of repetition compulsion and the ways it speaks in the Real when containment fails. Initial clinical connections are drawn with Wilfred Bion’s container-contained, André Green’s dead mother and maternal void, Jean Laplanche’s primordial seduction, and Ludwig Wittgenstein’s grammatical nonsense at the edge of the symptom.

 

Device

 

Four cartelisands + one Plus-One, in conformity with the cartel as instituted by Lacan in the Founding Act of his School. Membership is strictly by invitation. There shall be no auditors or spectators. Each participant works on a singular clinical trait and commits to producing a written elaboration by the end of the cartel’s fixed term (one to two years) after which the group permutes or dissolves. 

 

The names and precise traits of the cartelisands remain internal. The Plus-One also works a trait concerning the function itself. 

 

This is not a forum, nor is it intended for patients or casual clinicians. Transmission of the orientation occurs only through the Plus-One’s separate closed seminars for practising professionals. In accordance with the Lacanian cartel device, this group will dissolve at the end of its fixed term. Its members may then permute into new cartels for the continued transmission of the orientation.
