Event 2: Jouissance and Its Discontents

Conversations and Interactions on Lacanian Thought. Facilitated by Dr. Jaiyant Cavale

This public series explores core Lacanian concepts, with particular emphasis on jouissance and its consequences in subjective and cultural life, while including readings of media texts, literary works, and cultural discourses. It runs parallel to the closed Bangalore Lacanian Cartel and offers serious engagement with Lacan’s ideas.

Main Topics (Lacanian Focus):

  • The economy of jouissance and its relation to the drive

  • Repetition compulsion and the insistence of the Real

  • Desire, lack, and the objet petit a

  • The unconscious structured like a language

Secondary references will occasionally include Wilfred Bion’s beta elements, André Green’s dead mother, Jean Laplanche’s enigmatic signifiers, and Ludwig Wittgenstein’s grammatical nonsense to illuminate Lacanian points.

Format

  • Monthly public lectures (in-person in Bangalore, with hybrid option).

  • Each session consists of a 50-minute presentation followed by moderated discussion.

Eligibility: Open to anyone with serious intellectual interest. No prior clinical training or background in Lacan is required.

Note: This is a public transmission series and is distinct from the strictly closed Bangalore Lacanian Cartel and the advanced Closed Clinical Seminars reserved for practising clinicians.
